Winning option:Not Top 10 Opening Weekend: $87,800,000

After doing tremendous business overseas in the past two weeks, Skyfall definitely did not disappoint in its domestic debut this weekend. The 23rd James Bond movie scored an outstanding $87.8 million, which is a new opening weekend record for the 50-year-old franchise.

Background

The latest Bond film isn't due out for another week in the U.S.; however, it's already poised to be a huge money earner.

"Skyfall" opened in the UK one week ago on October 26th, and it's been shattering records ever since:

With $60 million in UK ticket sales, the 23rd Bond film holds the seven-day box-office record in the UK, passing the first week gross of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" ($57.4 million).
Its $32.4 million opening weekend was the biggest box-office weekend of the year in the UK and the second-largest ever box-office weekend in the country. Overseas, the film took in a total of $77.7 million opening weekend.
It's currently the third highest-grossing film of the year in the UK behind "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Avengers."

It also helps the film has a strong 95 percent "fresh" rating on movie review site "Rotten Tomatoes."

Skyfall will hit theaters in the U.S. November 9.

Because of hurricane Sandy's damage to the eastern U.S. coast I think Skyfall's gross will suffer somewhat.

Theaters in Washington and Boston could be back online later Tuesday or Wednesday, helping to mitigate the damage.
New York City and Los Angeles are the busiest moviegoing markets in the country, with each contributing 10 to 12 percent of overall grosses.
As long as New York City theaters and suburban New Jersey remain closed -- not to mention multiplexes in low-lying coastal areas -- grosses will continue to suffer.
