Background
The BBC offered a judging role to Bruce Dickinson, lead vocalist of Iron Maiden, but he refused to take part, describing the show as "cr*p and demeaning to everyone involved." After Cheryl Cole was controversially axed from the The X Factor USA during the auditions, it was rumoured that the BBC had offered Cole one of the judging roles. it was reported Cole and former UK X Factor co-judge Dannii Minogue, who also left the programme as it clashed with Australia's Got Talent, could be reunited on the panel. It was also reported that Adele and Cee Lo Green had been offered one of the judging roles on the show. Other rumoured coaches were will.i.am, Kylie Minogue, Take That singer Robbie Williams and Mary J. Blige. It was later revealed that Mark Owen of Take That was in the running.
On 4 October 2011, Jessie J was announced by the BBC as the first official coach, with will.i.am announced on 2 December 2011. The remaining two coaches were announced to be Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue from The Script on 8 December 2011. Collectively, The coaches have sold over 179 million Albums and singles.
