Background

Insiders have speculated that Fast and Furious 7 could still go ahead, with the uncompleted film released in tribute to it's lead star Paul Walker, who died in a tragic accident on Saturday.

The Fast and Furious actor died yesterday afternoon in a car crash in Los Angeles after a Porsche driven by his friend struck a lamp post, causing it to burst into a fireball.

Paul and his co-stars were mid-way through filming the seventh installment in the hugely popular Fast and Furious franchise, with the team starting production back in September. Shooting hasn't wrapped yet though for the movie scheduled to be released next July, leading many fans to speculate on the future of the movie.

An insider has suggested that production will continue though, with the movie released in honour of Walker:

Kurt Russell — who is cast in Fast And Furious 7 — called his late co-star Paul Walker a “terrific guy.”

The 62-year-old actor — who plays a father figure to Vin Diesel’s character — adds he is not sure what will happen to his character in the action film and shares that he was one day away from wrapping his role when Walker was killed in a fiery crash on November 30, 2013, during the production’s Thanksgiving break.

Paul Walker may be gone, but Brian O'Conner will never die.

The fate of "Fast & Furious 7" was uncertain in the days and weeks following Walker's tragic death, but details of how the fast-racing franchise will move its seventh installment forward are starting to come to light. In the case of Walker's fan-favorite character, former federal agent Brian O'Conner, fans can breathe a sigh of relief: Art won't imitate life, in this case.

"Fast & Furious 7" hits theaters on April 10, 2015.

Delayed, but a go.

That's what "Fast & Furious" actor Vin Diesel told fans Sunday night about the franchise's seventh installment.

He posted a message and photograph on Facebook that showed the last scene he and Paul Walker filmed together.

"There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared... in the film we were now completing... the magic captured... and, in just how far we've come...," Diesel wrote, announcing a new release date for the film -- April 10, 2015.

"P.s. He'd want you to know first...," he said.
