In a blog post on her official website, the star said she and boyfriend Simon Konecki were "over the moon" at the news and asked fans to respect their privacy.


The post, entitled "I've got some news", said: "Im delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.


"I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx."


She was quickly congratulated by dozens of well-wishers who left messages of support on the website.
In an interview with Vogue last October, she revealed she wanted to have boys when she started a family.

"I've always got on better with boys. Most of my friends are boys. Like, if I ever have children, I want five boys. Boys love their mothers whereas girls can be so mean to each other," she said.

Adele, 24, swept the board at the Grammys earlier this year after the success of her album 21, which featured songs she had written about her ex-boyfriend.

She and Mr Konecki, the CEO of water charity Drop4Drop, reportedly met last summer.

Mr Konecki separated from his ex-wife, fashion stylist Clary Fisher in 2008.
