Wayne Morgan has been living in the woods and has survived on rabbits, plants and berries.

But police launched a missing person’s hunt for the 37-year-old — dubbed locally as the “wolfman” — after his family said they had not seen him in four years.

Morgan managed to avoid searches by helicopter and sniffer dogs, but police think they have finally made a breakthrough after finding one of his hideouts in Ammanford, West Wales.

The den was surrounded by signs of life, including scraps of food and a cooking fire, as well as stacks of old newspapers.

A spokesman for Dyfed Powys Police, who are leading the search, said: “We are convinced Mr Morgan is in the area.

“We think he is aware of the search taking place and we have found a number of newspapers in his den.”
Local councillor Hugh Evans said: “The area where he is living is thickly-wooded and forested — the sort of area where it is easy to disappear.

“He is a bit of a Rambo type and pretty tough to have survived the bitterly cold winter living out in the open.”
