Background
SUGAR LAND -- Gordon’s Jewelers employees in First Colony Mall say two to three men entered the jewelry store at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and smashed several displays.
In seconds the thieves grabbed what they could and took off running.
Sugar Land police said there were customers inside the store at the time of the robbery, but no one was hurt. A spokesperson said the men did not display any weapons.
The incident is the latest in a series of unsolved smash-and-grab robberies involving Houston-area jewelry stores.
On Feb. 15, thieves struck the Ben Bridge Jewelry store inside Memorial City Mall. Surveillance video showed three masked men wielding sledgehammers and rushing inside the store. They smashed through the glass cases and took off with an unknown amount of high-dollar watches.
The crime scene seemed almost identical to the one at the Ben Bridge store in the Galleria. That location was hit three days before Christmas.
Two Zale’s Jewelry stores were robbed in January.
The FBI said it has not been asked to assist with the area robberies and that each are being handled by local law enforcement agencies.
