Background

In an astonishing break in the eight-year-old case of the disappearance of youngster Madeleine McCann, police have identified three new suspects. British police reportedly believe that the three men were operating a burglary ring in the area where Madeleine disappeared and when they happened upon the 3-year-old in the hotel room, they panicked and took her with them.

At any rate, Madeleine's parents must be relieved that the case is still being investigated and that police feel they might be hot on the trail of new suspects. The question is, when will these men be brought in for questioning?

And if it turns out these are the men responsible for her disappearance, how mind-bogglingly frustrating that they were known all along.

Do you think the police will ever solve this case?

This week, authorities will concentrate their efforts in grassy field near the Portugal resort.

Authorities confirmed the search was requested by Scotland Yard. On Monday, officers with Britain’s Metropolitan Police joined Portuguese officers to mark and secure the search area.

Officials will focus on a section of undeveloped scrubland, which is surrounded by holiday resorts. The total search area is comparable to three soccer fields.

As reported by BBC, the search has not yet begun. However, authorities will likely use “ground penetrating radar” to identify any anomalies, including disturbed layers of soil.

Authorities in Portugal have approved plans by the Metropolitan Police to dig for evidence at the resort where Madeleine McCann went missing seven years ago.

Forensic teams will use ground penetrating radar equipment to examine three sites in Praia da Luz, Sky News has reported, in an operation that comes just days after the seventh anniversary of her disappearance.

A former Scotland Yard detective has revealed that a suspect, linked with attacks on another five British girls in the region between 2004 and 2010, was wearing the distinctive, long-sleeve t-shirt with a logo from the Portuguese drinks company Super Bock.

The suspect is said to have worn the distinctive burgundy shirt on two occasions in Vale de Parra and Praia da Gale.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said last month the suspect broke into holiday properties where British families were staying and sexually abused five white British girls aged between seven and 10.

Described as a tanned, dark-haired man who was 'smelly and pot-bellied' it's believed he may be a local bin man.

Scotland Yard are hoping to begin 'operational activity' on the ground in Portugal, raising hopes that arrests could be imminent.

British police have names of suspects in Madeleine McCann investigation, Britain’s top policeman revealed yesterday.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe also disclosed his officers and Portuguese police are moving towards a joint investigation team.

It has been reported that Madeleine’s parents are frustrated at the slow progress towards a joint inquiry.

Madeleine, who was three at the time, vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia de Luz on the Algarve in May 2007.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are reportedly set to arrest three burglars who had been operating in the resort where the then three-year-old went missing.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has sent a letter to Portuguese authorities in relation to the case, which according to reports in the Daily Mirror included a request for permission to detain the three men.

Mobile phone records reportedly show that the thieves made a series of phone calls to each other in the hours after Madeleine disappeared in May 2007.
