So you may be surprised to learn how he plans on capping off his tremendous year: by "ending" his signature song with a performance on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve."

"Being in Times Square on New Year's Eve is already special — it's the biggest stage in the universe — plus it's my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of 'Gangnam Style,'" Psy told MTV News. "I mean, what better way to do it? It's my biggest and most meaningful birthday."

Of course, before you think New Year's Eve may be your last chance to do "the Pony," Psy would like to clarify that "Gangnam" will never truly go away — especially given his schedule — but he's itching to prove that he's got a second hit up his tuxedo sleeves. Which is why, in a way, he'll be saying goodbye to the song on December 31.

Five months ago, Psy's "Gangnam Style" premiered on YouTube. One month ago, it became the most-viewed clip in the site's history. And on Friday (December 21), it officially crossed the one-billion mark in total views — the first video to break that barrier — capping a whirlwind ride unlike any in recent memory.

"Honestly, when I made this video I didn't even expect 1 million views, because this is off my sixth album in Korea, so I just hoped it would be huge there," he said. "I didn't even think about any other countries; I just did my job and waited and watched. And, you know, today, I'm still wondering and analyzing its success. Because I've done this thing many times, this dance, this album, this video ... this one just became something else entirely."

South Korean rap star Psy's music video "Gangnam Style" on Saturday became the most watched item ever posted to YouTube with more than 800 million views, edging past Canadian teen star Justin Bieber's 2-year-old video for his song "Baby."

The milestone was the latest pop culture victory for Psy, 34, a portly rap singer known for his slicked-back hair and comic dance style who has become one of the most unlikely global stars of 2012.
