South Korean K-pop singer, Psy, has become an online sensation with satirical 'horse-dance' song.



An eccentric South Korean K-pop singer has become a global online hit after a video of his latest song was viewed more than 15 million times on YouTube.

Park Jae-Sang, 34, better known by his stage name "Psy", is riding high in the charts inside and outside Korea with "Gangnam Style", the title track of his sixth album.

The video featuring Psy performing the so-called "horse dance" -- similar to riding a horse -- has gone viral and pop stars overseas have tweeted and commented on the wacky performance.

Fans all over the world have created parody versions of the song and posted them on YouTube to share with others.

The song has been number one on Korea's major music charts for over three weeks and is also high on the iTunes store in the US, Canada, Finland, New Zealand and Denmark.

The wacky antics of Psy have captivated the Internet's attention this past week, as the K-Pop artist erupts out of United States obscurity and debuts on the Billboard Social 50 at No. 25, thanks to the viral success of his video for "Gangnam Style."

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

As previously reported, Gangnam is an affluent part of South Korea's capital, Seoul, and Gangnam's "style" is a reference to the fancy living used to impress a love interest.

Since its YouTube debut on July 15, "Gangnam Style" has racked up more than 21 million views on Psy's official YouTube channel. The track tops the K-Pop Hot 100, ascends 3-1 on World Digital Songs (9,000 downloads, up 289%, according to Nielsen SoundScan) and debuts at No. 23 on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs.
