Background

History of the Belmont Stakes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belmont_Stakes

This could be the first time in 34 years that a Triple Crown Winner is hailed. So far I'll Have Another has won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. He only needs to win the Belmont in order to win the Triple Crown of horse racing. The Belmont is the longest race of the three at 1-1/2 miles on a dirt track. It is held at Belmont Partk in Elmont, New York. The race will be run on Saturday, June 9th. The approximate post time is 6:35 PM ET, USA.

Shucks. It would have been nice to have a 3-C winner this year. I know a bunch of younger people who have stated that they have never had a triple crown winner in their lifetimes. Well, maybe next year:(

Just read the news. So sorry

BREAKING NEWS: Trainer Says 'I'll Have Another' Out of Belmont Stakes! Oh no! Now we'll never know!

   Super Usergotmick

Well, we know of at least one Union boss with some money on this horse race, huh? "There's no way in hell the Belmont Stakes won't be run," Vincent McElroen, financial secretary for the IBEW Local 3, told the New York Post Tuesday.

WHAT??? Is this a Union talking? Gee, ya think they might have some sure bets on this race? ;)

IHA is now 3/5 at Belmont. Closest odds to him are Dullahan 5/1 and Union Rags 6/1. If he runs like his odds convey he will win the Triple Crown. The horse that bothers me is Paynter who flashed a Beyer rating of 106 at Pimlico against a lower class field of allowance horses, but the 1-1/2 mile Belmont won't surrender anything close to a 106 with this field.

Good for you Bucky. Got the good news. Amazing that a union official says he doesn't care what the union members do. I imagine they are going to tell the members to work Saturday and pull their strike after that. Makes no sense, but what the heck.

   Super UserBuckeyeTom

Strike or No-Strike, the race will go off as scheduled.
NEW YORK -- A top official of the union representing Belmont Park maintenance workers said Saturday's Belmont Stakes will go off as planned despite the union's threat to walk off the job Friday.

"There's no way in hell the Belmont Stakes won't be run," Vincent McElroen, financial secretary for the IBEW Local 3, told the New York Post Tuesday.

"That race is going to run. No matter what the guys do, that race is going to run."

That means I'll Have Another will still have a chance to make history by becoming the first horse in 34 years to win the coveted Triple Crown.

Oh wow, the maintenance workers are threatening a strike Friday. Who's going to blink?

I'm right there in your thinking pattern Mick. What's encouraging to me is that "I'll Have Another" is the best of a bad lot of 3 year olds. That is why I think h will win. It is also the same as giving in to the Law of Averages regarding a TC winner. This seems like all of the right components are in place for him to win. What bothers me is a true distance rinner in the Derby that got boxed in and could not explode and did not tip his hand in the Preakness. If that sleeper horse is in the Belmont and he fires I am screwed on my solo win bets. Again Gotmick, you are smart.

I hope he wins, but it seems like this story repeats itself often. After Big Brown got creamed in 2008 (with 1-4 odds!), I realized how often a horse won the first two legs of the Crown only to choke at the Belmont Stakes. Since the last Triple Crown winner in 1978, an upset occurred in 2008, 2004, 2003, 2002, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1989, 1987, 1981, 1979.

His odds are currently 3/2 that I'll Have Another will win the Belmont and the Triple Crown. The Polls on the gambling sites put the percentages at 72% win and 28% lose. That's almost opposite of KtN.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice, I really suck at life.

It looks likes oddsmakers learned their lesson.

I’ll Have Another was a 15/1 underdog at Churchill Downs. After winning the Derby, he still was labeled an underdog to Bodemeister at the Preakness. This time around, though, Bodemeister isn’t expected to run and even if he would be, I doubt there would be any debate as to who’s the favorite going into the Belmont.

If I’ll Have Another were to pull off the trifecta, he’d boast the lowest odds going into the Kentucky Derby out of any Triple Crown winner by far. Listed at 3/2 now, though, the odds are stacked overwhelmingly in his favor.

I'll have Another has already beaten this field of horses twice. Why bet against him?
