Background

It's not official until the Republican National Convention meets, but it does look like Mitt Romney will be the Republican Party's candidate. Even if Romney fails for some crazy reason, there still needs to be someone named to be the Republican candidate for the office of Vice President. From the names being bandied about here is a list of 9+ to choose from. Who will the GOP pick to run in the 2nd slot against current President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden?

These names are taken from some of the current lists flying around the media circus tents.

I'm going to suspend this at 8am on Saturday morning. Romney just announced that he is naming his VP partner at 9am ET on August 11, 2012. If this changes I will re-open the question. If he names the person and the person accepts, this question will settle.

Now Portman is re-surfacing with his name back in the headlines.

And today's story is implying that Romney is short-listing a woman Veep. Stay tuned for tomorrow's revised script.

I've also heard his team say they were not vetting hime, and that he was finished being vetted. Every story going. I want them to leave him alone so he can marinate some and improve.

Rubio is being vetted by Romney today, June 19th, 2012, per Mitt Romney.

The name I am hearing the most mentioned right now is Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, but the names seems to be changing each week. I agree with you Cici, that the Bush moniker does seem to have an anchor attached to it.

Jeb Bush saying he would accept the position of VP threw me for a loop. He is so perfect except no one likes his last name. His wife is Mexican, the whole family speaks Spanish, and his No. 1 son is the handsomest man in the world. The fact he was Gov. here in Fl. will not matter. The family working each year on children's reading programs will not matter. His founding of schools will not matter. The name Bush, matters.
